Chief Deputy Seeks 1st Term, is Committed To “Leadership, Service, & Compassion”

KITSAP COUNTY, WASHINGTON – Kitsap County’s Chief Deputy Coroner, Russ Reuther, has announced his candidacy for the office of Coroner in the upcoming November election. Coroner Greg Sandstrom is retiring after 20 years as Kitsap’s elected Coroner.

“I’ve enjoyed working for and with Greg Sandstrom, and I am committed to continuing to provide leadership to the Coroner’s office with the service and compassion that he has provided Kitsap County.”

With a background of seven years in law enforcement, 16 accumulative years as Lead Chaplain for both Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue and the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, nearly two decades as a local pastor, and currently as Chief Deputy Coroner, Reuther is uniquely qualified for the position. His undergraduate education includes Police Science, Criminal Justice-Administration, and graduate work in Pastoral Studies and Leadership.

Reuther is active in the Kitsap community serving on the Compassionate Friends Advisory Board, Cribs for Kids program, YMCA Safe Kids Advisory Board, and the Suicide Prevention Coalition. He is also a member of the Washington Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners and the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners.

Coroner Greg Sandstrom has endorsed Reuther for Coroner of Kitsap County. “I can’t imagine a better person to take my place. Russ has the same background I had in law enforcement and the ministry when I took over as Coroner. This job requires a strong leader who has the compassion to work with families in the most difficult moment of their lives while working alongside law enforcement professionals to find answers. Russ possesses all the qualities needed to lead a department of professionals who deal daily with the stresses of this job and to continue the vision, effectiveness, and level of service of the Coroner’s Office.”

Reuther is running as a Republican, but commented, “Greg has proven over the last 20 years that this is not a political office, but rather an office of service. I have that same heart for this work and for taking care of the needs of all of our citizens.”

A campaign kickoff event will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 5:30 PM at Rice Fergus Miller located at 275 5th Street #100, Bremerton, WA 98337. The public is welcome to attend. For more information, contact 360.865.0747.
